FolkTale - Caramelised Honey and Oak Mead - Amergin

Amergin is FolkTale's best seller. Fermented with locally sourced honey and oak to provide this down-to-earth, natural honey wine.

FolkTale’s Amergin is a sweet oak mead, inspired by traditional Polish Dwójniak mead and Irish druidic folklore. The marriage of the two has created a sweet, full-bodied mead with notes of caramelized honey which are balanced by tannins and flavours of oak

Mythology behind the name of FolkTale’s Mead

Song of Amergin

On battleships, the Milesian sat off the shore of Ireland, bound by pride to claim revenge on the Tuatha Dé Danann who had treacherously killed their king. The druids of Tuatha Dé Danann summoned a devastating storm that threatened the destruction of the Milesian fleet. The Milesian druid Amergin saw the death of his wife, sons, and fellow countrymen, and in a last attempt to aid his people to reach the shores of Ireland, he sang this magical song which parted the storm.

I am the sea winds, I am the ocean waves,

I am the tides roaring, I am the stag of the seven wild woods,

I am the fiercest of beast, I am the hawk of the cliff where my nest hides, and I am the lord of all words.

I am the most radiant of all flowers, I am salmons wisdom, I am lightening, I am thunder.

I am the lord of trees, I am the queen of hives, I am the shield over the head of the warrior, the spear of battle.

The waves eternal return, the grave of every vain yearning, and I know the secret of the three moons and the secret path,

and my spell is the spell on the sea, the mountains, the rivers and the wild tribes.
